Villarreal=Liverpool FC. Spainish Edition.
By: Javier | December 6th, 2008Villarreal Getafe
3- 3
Robert Pires (55) Esteban Granero (10)
Sebastian Eguren (83) Jaime Gavilán Martínez (17)
Giuseppe Rossi (86) Francisco Casquero (30)
If not many of you are familiar with the EPL side, Liverpool, then you wouldn’t exactly get my headline for this post. Liverpool is known to be a great team, but known to come back and win/tie it up in the last remaining minutes. Usually this isn’t our style, but scoring the last two goals after the 80th minute and being down 1-3 sounds like a Liverpool move by us.
1st Half
Good ol Getafe knew not to take us lightly. They rushed the front, avoided our defenders and used long shots to get to the back of the net. Matrinez’s goal has to be one of the nicest goals I’ve seen in a while. Seeing a floater just coming straight to him and just finishing like nothing has to show class and control over the ball. Awesome pass and awesome finish.
Taking advantage of the fact that they were on fire they just kept on scoring. Two more down and were at 0-3 by half time.
2nd Half
Well, shit. 0-3 AT HOME. Talk about having a good game today or one to our advantage. Somewhere in Altidore’s head made him upset. Like seriously upset. He was the one guy I saw give more then 100%. Chasing after balls and being the agressive footballer he is. We had about a good 2 chances on goal right after the whistle blew for the 2nd half. The first chance looked like a bunch of headless chickens running inside the box. Quite ridiculous that nothing came out of that. The 2nd chance was a failure tap in by Capdeville. Stupid stupid stupid. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy, but you HAVE to finish when the ball is in front of you and your 2m away from the goal. You just have to.
Our first goal came in from Pires’s stomach? Or was it his chest? I have no idea, but something on his body pushed the ball into the back of the neck. A break finally. At this point in the game I’m still somewhat pissed off at the fact that I’m still slightly hungover and my teams losing. Not a good combination.
The 2nd goal was absolute class. Eguren would be my man of the match if Altidore didn’t play as well as he did. Beautiful ball into the box and then Eguren just puts a nice slap to the ball into the net. I truly can’t describe this so the video will have to do it some justice.
Awesome. Thank God for Sapo.
. At this point of the match, were on fire. We push and go foward and don’t give Getafe any chance to score, let alone get a touch on the ball. A great ball shot in the middle for Rossi, a little scrambling, and bam. Number three and we tied it up. From 0-3 we tied it up. Absolutely orgasmic as Ray Hudson would say.
The next minutes were spent with us ALMOST coming up with a miracle and beating Getafe. Sadly we will have to settle with the one point. Which sounds a bit like complaining, but hell I’m happy for this tie and this game.
Champions League
As you can see from my post before when we faced ManUre, were already through in qualification for the next round in the Champions League. Yay, however that delicious UEFA Cup (I refuse to call it the Europa or whatever its now called Cup) is still up for grabs for Celtic and AaB. We play the Bhoys at Celtic Park on Wednesday to see if we get top of the table. I might be liveblogging this if anyone’s interested, otherwise I’ll just sit in my schools cafeteria and yell at the TV while everyone is looking at me oddly.
La Liga
We stand in a nice 2nd place in La Liga. Not really worrying about Valencia right now catching up since they have quite a busy schedule. Were currently six points behind the Catalan giants. I took it upon my self to investigate (I didn’t want to get my ass off the chair) the Barcelona vs Valencia game.
Let me tell you, I’m a bit scared. Not at the tall Frenchman, not at the puffy haired Spaniard, but scared of us. We played lightly against this Getafe side, and I think this shows that we need to step it the hell up. If were going to be playing Barcelona, we need to be ready for them. Playing like we played today, will only bring humiliation.
In the Barcelona game they actually humiliated Valencia. Yeah, Valencia, you know, David Villa, used to be on the top of La Liga not to long ago? A 4-0 defeat and a hat trick scored by Henry (Nice job, great game). This only leads me to think on how were going to do this against them when we play. I’m just preparing myself for war, basically.
We play at Sevilla on Sunday. Not only will we be away but we’ll be playing after a CL game. I hope we just play lightly against Celtic and focus on La Liga for now. Only time will tell on our starting XI on Wednesday.
Vamos Villarreal!

what game were you watching. Jozy was not good at all. He was sluggish

I disagree about Jozy though obviously it didn’t bear fruit this time around. It’s just exciting he got a full game in for me…just a shame that chemistry with Rossi won’t help Team USA. I was disappointed that GolTV didn’t show the replay on the late challenge in the box (involving Josmer as well). Is Senna at full health yet? It was a shame he missed so much of the ManU tie and then he didn’t finish last weekend either so I was curious. Thanks for the blog entries.

Oh, and I don’t believe Celtic has a chance at the UEFA Cup now. They’re three points down and lost the tie to Aalborg.

I guess my view on Jozy is quite opposite on what you guys think. Him playing the full 90 and making some good plays was enough to convince me. Sure, he didn’t play as well as Rossi or whoever, but I saw a huge improvement in his style/playing. This is just my opinion.
Omaha I agree. That last minute attempt at goal was awesome, and should of been replayed. I wanted to see how close it really was to getting in, should of done better in that stike :-/.
Celtic is a great team to play, not only for points but for the love of the game. Great club and much respect for them. If Aalborg somehow loses and Celtic grabs a win with some goals, I think they can make the UEFA Cup spot. Then again, hoping that would mean a lose to our side =P.

Oh, I was disagreeing with Yoman about Jozy being ’sluggish and not good at all.’ I had picked Villarreal as my team in La Liga before he got there but now am just so thrilled he gets to develop at such a great club.

Me too, Omaha Bhoy. I not a regular supporter of The Yellow Submaarine, but I do follow Jozy as much as I can (which is why I came snooping around here for tidbits). I can’t believe he’s getting PT at such a quality club – and apparently getting better. And yes, it kills me every time I see Rossi in the highlights that he doesn’t play for the US – but I can’t blame him. He’s good enough to play for the Azurri, so you can’t begrudge him for that.
