The Submarine..arises!

By: Javier | January 21st, 2009

Hello all. Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the Villarreal blog. A lot has been keeping me busy over the winter break. Only not really. The defeat to Real Madrid really did a number to me. I couldn’t come to myself to write it. Pathetic I know, but hey it sucks when your club loses to the likes of them..anyways. Thats that and I’m back.

Villarreal 0 – Real Madrid 1
Robben. Why the hell did it have the be the balding Robben. You know I would of been fine if some other Real player scored it but damnit I hate Robben. The dirty football I’ve seen him play, crappy skills and overall scum just makes me more angry.
We played a good game against Madrid to be honest. I thought this was going to be a game in the sack. They just got crushed by the Catalans 2-1 during El Clasico. With that in mind I thought we were going to have a depressed/sad Madrid at home. I was wrong, obviously. They came attacking more so in the second half then the first. We had several chances with Rossi but he could never finish. Frustration started brewing at Villarreal and they caught us off guard. Baldy ends up shooting a beautiful (ugh this hurts, but I can’t diss skill..or luck >_>) curler to the back of the net. Just like me, they all just said “fuck it”. We go on to lose the game and go even lower to the table.

Derby day!
Valencia 3- Villarreal 3
Valencia Villarreal
Rubén Baraja (1) Fabricio Fuentes (45)
David Villa (10) Joseba Llorente (76)
Edu (79) Giuseppe Rossi (pen 84)
1st Half
This is a personal apology to all Villarreal fans that watched/love the game. Its one thing to not write about Madrid but to miss a derby? Shame on me.
Right off the bat. Valencia goes off with a attacking blast, just like in the last game I saw them play. As soon as the clock starts these guys are ready to go and score. Not like most clubs to go full 100% at the first minute. Barajas header goes to the back of the net with confusion and questioning for the Submarine side. Questioning as in, “Holy shit, did that really just happen?”. Yes, it did. Now get ready for some more pissed off Valencians that have almost no money to finance their club (let alone have a ugly green sponsor logo destroying their sexy jerseys..). Villa is always dangerous. Hes a wanted man for this very reason. Leaving him up front with one guy means he’ll out run him and shoot a bullet to the back of the net. As did he, great goal and great football. Just as we think were screwed, good ol Fuentes comes in with the Villarreal hope to come back. Corners and free kicks are ours. IMO I think we are close to if not the best to score from corners. Of course I bring Barca out of this equation since they have the impressive 45+ GD, God knows how many of those are from corners..Half time runs around and were back.
2nd Half
Some minor chances occur quickly when we start the half back up. However no goals were being made until the 75+ minute. Both sides are eager to score by then, since we obviously feel the derby heat coming on. Llorente’s goal reminded me of pong, except accelerated by 50x. Such a neat and cool goal, and we tie it 2-2. When were on fire like this, its not like us to keep it at a tied game until the VERY last minutes of the game. The former Arsenal player Edu rises up from a quickly taken corner to score a nice header. I don’t know if we could of done much on that play. We were clearly beat, as you can see the defender is off jumping to God knows what..(Godin I’m looking at you V_V). Down again. Only since we all know Villarreal by now, its far from over.
Now. The penalty.

Right there at 1:20 you can see it for yourself. IMO, it was a lighter challenge. Not many refs would of called that a penalty but lady luck was on our side for that. Rossi puts one on the back of the net and we tie it at the Valencia derby.

Villarreal 2 – 0 Mallorca
Villarreal Mallorca
Joan Capdevila (29)
Giuseppe Rossi (pen 33)

Ah good Ol Capdevila. I don’t know how you guys feel about him, but hes my favorite rreal defender. Such class and skill from the Spaniard. His header at the 29th minute was excellent. No one stopped it, just watched it bounce right into the back of the net. Yet again, we get a penalty. What is with people and tripping us in the box? This one IMO was more of a harsh challenge, and deserved it no problem. Rossi puts another one in the back of the net. I bet this will encourage him to score one that ISN’T a penalty. Yes?
You see. We have what it takes. We were amazing on the defense and offense this game. To be honest this and the Valencia tie gave me my hope back, and enough motivation to write this bitchin post down. Villarreal takes the 3 points at the end of the 90.

La Liga
So where does this all lead us? 5th place. Only one point away from local Valencia and 5 points away from tied Sevilla and Real Madrid.
Another honesty thing going here. I’ve lost all hope for winning La Liga. If you haven’t heard or been watching, Barcelona has been dominating. 50 points and +46 GD. Unless if they have Messi and Puyol injured, I don’t see them dropping any points. Yes they have other players barca fans but these guys are my nightmares, so shutup! (done in Jose Mourinho voice).
Its more then possible to come back to the lovely 2nd place spot. Mmm Champions League :) . I’ll settle with that. We won’t play CL footie for a while, so we can focus more on getting in 2nd place.

Transfers?
ESPN sucks. Completely. First Senna, then Jozy and now they’re doing more on the whole Kaka situation. Real Madrid. Really? Right after that crazy Man Shitty crisis. I don’t really care anymore to be honest. I just want it to be over. David Beckham isn’t a magician like Daryl. He doesn’t have his crystal ball.
Jozy and Senna are both STAYING here. They bleed Villarreal and they will continue too for the rest of the season.

IOSS, Yes. I am actually writing about this.
I’ve tried numerous things in my life that I guess I could become addicted too. Beer, cigs, caffeine, Pro Evolution 2009 and so forth. None of which have caused me to be an addict. I will admit. I am addicted to Im On Setanta Sports. Hearing about the cancellation made me cringe, hate, and cry. I feel like I can’t get my fix anymore. Its horrible.

I don’t know what I will do. Maybe I’ll make my own like I have already to remember the Special One. Until then, be champions. (Hopefully the rumors of them making a new show altogether comes true..)

Vamos Villarreal!!

What do the supporters think about Jozy Altidore being loaned out to Xerez for the remainder of the season? I think at this stage in his football development, he’s got to log minutes on the pitch, not on the bench. I like it – as long as he plays.
