Champions League, Jozy beating my home country and revival of the Villarreal FC blog.

By: Javier | February 25th, 2009

Quite a lot to go over. Lets break it down to see what I’ve missed in the last couple of weeks.

  • Where the hell was I/I doubt anyone missed me
  • People going into international games.
  • Villarreal’s games in La Liga
  • Champions League Preview
  • Holy shit Barca actually lost. Hope!

Me sa back!
Where have I been? Well, busy with school work/girlfriend/friends/stress/trying to find a job/reading to many damn comic books. I’ve watched the games but sadly haven’t been able to muster up a post worthy enough of the Villarreal Offside. Enough was enough though, thanks to a certain someone, I’ve gotten back into the grove and am ready to write on this thing every week. (Here comes the addiction again).
Oh and also. Football Manager 2009 is amazing. That’s been eating up my time as well >_<.

International Games
Jozy, Capedevilla, Senna, and Rossi are some of the select few that got to go off and represent their country’s football team. I didn’t happen to catch the Spain vs England game, or the Italy game, however, I did mange to catch the USA vs Mexico game which Jozy came in as a sub at the 75th minute. I’m a Mexican American, so you can only imagine how disappointed I was in the Mexican squad/Sven but I really don’t care. I’m just glad I’m part Spanish to cancel out the fail part. The best part of that game for me was actually seeing Jozy coming out to play. He’s living proof that an American can go to Europe and play football (I guess Landon too…I mean it is his 3rd time out there, he had to get it right eventually). Great plays and runs from the lad.

La Liga
2 wins, 1 draw and a defeat. That lands us in a awkward 3 point gap between 3rd place Sevilla and 5th place Valencia. We’re still hanging in there and I think we have a pretty damn good chance in making it to second this year. Maybe even first if somehow Barca and Real lose some games? Hey its possible. Barca did just lose their cool during the Espanyol game so I’m praying for something in La Liga. The next 3 games in La Liga are against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis. We’ve never lost to any of them but only won against Betis. So this could bring us some points. They’ll be hard considering we only play at home during the Atletico game but its not impossible.

Champions League: Panathinaikos
Sadly were going to have to do part with Capedevilla due to his red card :-/. Panathinaikos isn’t by all means an easy team to beat. They put up great fights against Jose Mourinhos Inter and have tied Bremen. Surely that counts for something. IMO it’ll be a little easier then ManUre but a little harder then Celtic. With that said, this should be a good game. Hopefully I’ll be able to steam this things via computer due to not living in Spain and getting it on my local channels. Stupid ESPN English Bias (They’re not even showing the Liverpool game tomorrow, seriously? I guess something with English vs Italian teams is on the rage here in the states).

Yeah, Barca Lost
End of this discussion. Woo!
Lets hope we snag this victory. It would make my week >_>.
Vamos Villarreal!!

Javier, I am hosting a live blog for the game tomorrow, you are welcome to join me over at the Greece Blog http://www.greece.theoffside.com

I’m a fan of Olympiacos and not Panathinaikos (they’re my arch rivals), so I’ll weigh in on the match with my neutral perspective. Your Villarreal viewpoints are highly sought after. Enjoy the game.

Neutral? In a match involving PAO? Dude, I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll be supporting Villarreal all the way. :)
